Carey Beth Hockett (USA)
Carey Beth Hockett is a member of the Suzuki faculty of the Colburn School in Los Angeles and the director of Corkybird Enterprizes (www.corkybird.com) which produces creative resources for music education.
She served on the cello committee of the SAA from 1978-88 and received their distinguished service award for her contribution to work on the core materials in 1998. While living in London, England, from 1988 to 2006, Carey directed Suzuki cello teacher training programs for Britain, Holland, and Finland. As cello representative to the Board of the European Suzuki Association from 1997 to 2002, she helped revise the syllabus for teacher training and worked again on the revision of core materials. She has special interest in the teaching of groups and is in the process of developing courses focused on this essential element of the Suzuki approach.
