Dr Beth Cantrell (USA)
Cellist Beth Cantrell has taught cello to students of all ages since 1981. She regularly works with children, parents and teachers throughout the United States. She currently serves on the board of the Suzuki Association of the Americas (South, Central and North), is a member of its Cello Committee, and a registered teacher trainer.
She is principal cellist for the Waynesboro Symphony, and a member of the Afton String Quartet. She has also played with the Richmond Symphony, Opera on the James, the Roanoke Symphony, the Wintergreen Festival, and in solo recitals. Prior to moving to Virginia with her family, she was principal cellist for the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, a member of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, and was on the faculty of Kennesaw State University. She was also active in the Atlanta area as a chamber performer, teacher, and recording studio musician. She can be heard as cello soloist on a best selling album Orinoco Flow, by the Taliesin Orchestra.
Dr. Beth maintains an active studio at Crozet Arts (crozetarts.org), where she collaborates each summer in The Twinkle Project.
This proprietary workshop, adapted each year for the participants, combines ballet, theater, art and music, culminating in the performance of a story set to Mozart’s Variations on Twinkle.
Dr. Cantrell earned degrees in cello performance and music history from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Florida State University, and the University of Georgia. She has two young adult children, and has been married to Paul Cantrell since 1986.
